Former Lyon man Lucas Paquetá shoulder injury brings doubt over World Cup with Brazil

According to L’Équipe former Lyon man and international teammate to Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar, Lucas Paquetá looks like a doubt for Brazil ahead of the World Cup after suffering a shoulder injury in which his ligaments were damaged. He was absent for West Ham’s 1-0 loss against Liverpool at Anfield last night, where manager David Moyes said “It’s very serious, we’re disappointed to lose him for a while.”

The Brazilian attacking midfielder Lucas Paquetá moved from Lyon to West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer, with the transfer totalling €61.63m including bonuses.

The former Milan man signed a five-year deal with the Hammers, during which the €18.68m in bonuses will be spread out, while Lyon will also retain a 10% fee off the profit of any future transfer.

The 25-year-old will have spent two full seasons in Ligue 1, scoring 18 goals overall and impressing in a variety of positions during his time in France. He was nevertheless open to an exit in the wake of Lyon’s failure to qualify for Europe this season, with the team having finished in eighth place last year. Lyon have indicated in their announcement that the player was particularly interested in a move to the Premier League.
