Selfridges gets formal

This October, department store Selfridges will unveil UK’s largest formalwear area. In its final phase of revamping its menswear area, the formalwear selection will be set over the entire first floor where the London flagship store will combine heritage and modernity. Selfridges has created a 15,000 square foot dedicated to formalwear featuring various brands; exclusive boutiques from Etro and Richard James, brand new shops from Zegna, Canali, Gieves and Hawkes, Paul Smith, Ralph Lauren Purple and Black Label; and a made-to-measure service from Europe and the UK’s leading tailors. Coinciding with the launch, Dolce e Gabbana will open its first formalwear concept store.

While the area will be predominantly devoted to quintessential suiting, seasonal trends have an important part in the Selfridges’ formalwear selection. Selfridges’ stores have been the first to offer customers’ a comprehensive high-low offer – everything from Top Man to Lanvin in one store.

“Luxury and ‘serious suiting’ are the key elements in our redevelopment of Formalwear. These aspects are reflected in both the brand edit and elegant, customer-friendly surroundings. We have worked hard to ensure we can now offer customers a made-to-measure service with real authority. The Formalwear market is booming and becoming increasingly competitive, with more men investing in beautifully cut suits in top quality fabrics for both work and special occasions. At Selfridges, our point of difference is a luxurious offer with design integrity. This season it’s not only the suits that mean business!” says David Walker-Smith, Selfridges’ Director of Menswear.
