IT’S BEEN ANOTHER action-packed week of sport at home and abroad.

It was a slow start to the Cheltenham festival for Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh, and Douvan’s poor performance in the Queen Mother Champion Chase was one of the most notable.

On Tuesday night, Iker Casillas broke a record as he made his 175th appearance in a UEFA club competition. He made his debut in September 1999, and this week the Spaniard surpassed the previous record-holder Paolo Maldini.

We brought you random transfer news on Tuesday — Former Chelsea, AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien has signed with Indonesia’s Persib Bandung, the highest-profile player to join a team in the country for years.

The Ghanaian 34-year-old signed a one-year contract for an undisclosed sum, but Brian Buckley is disappointed he’s not moving elsewhere.

A life-size bronze statue of legendary jockey AP McCoy was unveiled at Cheltenham race course on the opening morning of this year’s festival.

Now retired, McCoy stood for photos alongside the statue with his family.

As Dr Crokes captain Johnny Buckley accepted the All-Ireland trophy, he highlighted one of the supporters, 10-year-old Amy O’Connor who has been battling illness over the past year.

She was brought up to the podium in the Hogan Stand to lift the Andy Merrigan Cup with Buckley.
