New number one contenders to the Impact World Championship and Tag Team titles were decided on this week’s episode of Impact.
In the main event of this week’s show, Ace Austin defeated Zachary Wentz to become the number one contender to Tessa Blanchard’s Impact World title. Austin vs. Trey Miguel was supposed to be the finals of Impact’s number one contender’s tournament, but there was an angle where — as he was supposed to be making his entrance — it was found that Miguel had been attacked by someone backstage.
Austin wanted to be declared number one contender, but Wentz came out to confront Austin and thought he was the person who attacked Miguel.
Miguel is part of The Rascalz with Wentz and Dezmond Xavier. Wentz & Xavier had just defeated TJP & Fallah Bahh on last night’s show to become the number one contenders to the Impact Tag Team titles, which are held by The North (Josh Alexander & Ethan Page).
Earlier in the show, Moose interrupted a backstage interview with Austin. He called the Impact World Championship a second-rate title and said Austin should come after his TNA World Heavyweight Championship instead. Austin said that maybe he will.
Moose has been calling himself TNA World Champion since night two of Rebellion in April. Blanchard was supposed to defend her title against Michael Elgin and Eddie Edwards in a triple threat match at Rebellion, but neither Blanchard nor Edwards attended Impact’s tapings for the show due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Austin replaced Ken Shamrock in the number one contender’s tournament after Shamrock was attacked by Elgin. Austin defeated Rhino and Hernandez in the first two rounds to get to the finals.
