More Backstage News on WWE Pushing Drew McIntyre, Jericho/SD 1000

On a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio Program, it was stated that WWE is going all out to protect Drew McIntyre as WWE sees big potential in him from the day they got him back into the company. He has a good look, a great physique, can wrestle well and is strong on the mic – basically he checks off all the boxes that matters to Vince McMahon.

It was added that the plan for McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler was to mimic The Shawn Michaels-Diesel alliance from The 90s. With The Michaels/Diesel combo, the aim was to lead into a main event push for Diesel which is what the idea is for McIntyre though he is obviously stronger than Kevin Nash (Diesel) in multiple aspects. Ultimately, the hope is that McIntyre can turn into a superstar who can carry the company in the future.
SmackDown 1000 was a monumental show as it featured several WWE Legends & Hall Of Famers as well as returns & factions reuniting. One WWE Legend that was not featured on SmackDown 1000 was none other than the current IWGP United States Champion Chris Jericho. A fan on Twitter recently asked Chris Jericho why he wasn’t at The Historic 1000th Episode Of SmackDown LIVE last Tuesday night and Jericho responded with a simple reason: he wasn’t invited. As previously reported, while the two sides are still open to working together, The Jericho/WWE relationship has soured a bit lately. You can check out Jericho’s tweet below:
