Mavericks Enter 2018-19 Rated Eighth in Nation

The Minnesota State wrestling team is rated eighth in the 2018-19 NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 Preseason Poll.

The Mavericks are one of three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams ranked in the poll. St. Cloud State is rated first, Upper Iowa comes in tied for sixth and the Mavericks are eighth.

Minnesota State has five individuals ranked at their respective weight classes, including senior George Farmah (St. Paul, Minn.), who went 13-7 for the Mavericks a year ago and placed second in his first national tournament appearance, is rated #1 at 133.

Junior Zach Johnston (174), who is ranked fourth, led Minnesota State in wins last year with a 24-7 record and became an All-American at the NCAA championship with a seventh-place finish at nationals after registering a second-place regional result. Senior Seth Elwood (165), who is rated sixth, posted a 16-11 mark en route to a regional title and a seventh-place finish at last year’s NCAA Championship tournament. Junior Andrew McFall (125), who is rated 12th, posted a 17-8 mark and was sixth at regions last year and sophomore Kyle Rathman (149), who is rated 12th, was 22-10 and placed sixth at regions in his first year of college wrestling last year.

NCAA DII Wrestling Coaches Association Rankings – October 29, 2018

Minnesota State’s first action of the year is this weekend when individuals will compete at the RCTC Yellowjacket Open Saturday in Rochester, Minn.
