While the police have been failing to contain kidnappings and crime against children, the Railway Protection Force (RAF) has been rescuing 30 children every day from across the railway stations in India. Since January 2017, over 20,000 children have been rescued by RPF and sent to their homes and this data is until August this year. In three years before this, roughly the same number of children were rescued and sent home by RPF.

RPF getting proactive in identifying children

RPF has been keeping a close eye on identifying children who need help. The RPF also keeps an eye on children who are vulnerable to crime. “We are taking a more proactive role in identifying children in need of protection at railway premises and sending them home before they get into crime. Earlier, our role would begin when a crime has been committed,”Inspector General, RPF, Jaya Singh Chauhan told news agency PTI.
