Mann-Rea suspended for one week

Brumbies hooker Josh Mann-Rea will miss this weekend’s match against the Cheetahs, after being suspended for punching.

Mann-Rea was red carded in the Brumbies’ loss to the Stormers, leaving his side a man down for the final 17 minutes of the match.

The replacement hooker pleaded guilty to the punching Stormers prop Oli Keeble, reducing an initial two-week suspension down to one.

SANZAAR judicial officer Chris Morris said there were no other extenuating circumstances to consider.

“I did not consider there to be any aggravating factors to take into account,” he said.

“I did take the player admitting guilt for the offence into account as a mitigating factor.

“This entitles the player up to a 50 per cent reduction in sanction which I applied.

“This results in a one week suspension being imposed on the player.”

Mann-Rea will be one of at least two forced changes for the Cheetahs match, with no. 8 Ita Vaea travelling to Cape Town this week to replace the injured Jarrad Butler.

Vaea has not played since dislocating his finger against the Waratahs, replaced by Butler in the starting side, but is expected to be fit for this weekend.

Butler was a late withdrawal from the Brumbies side on the weekend with a knee injury set to put him out for six week, replaced by Jordan Smiler in the starting XV.

Former Sevens representative Michael Wells came off the bench for his Super Rugby debut, though it was short lived with the flanker pulled after Mann-Rea’s red card.

The Brumbies travel to Bloemfoentain to take on the Cheetahs on Sunday morning (AEDT).
