Speaking in an interview with Goal France, AS Monaco full-back Benjamin Henrichs discussed his time with Thierry Henry as manager.
“I was delighted to have a legend like Henry as manager. I really appreciated being managed by him and to play for him. You can learn a lot from one such personality in football.”
“He is a perfectionist who really insisted on the necessity of doing each exercise properly. He was a bit fanatic and I think that he learned a lot from Pep Guardiola at FC Barcelona. He took the team in a very difficult phase because nobody knew exactly how to behave in a relegation battle. On top of that, some key first team players were injured and young players without experience had to fill their shoes. He had a thankless task.”
“After the first training session, for a moment, I thought I was dreaming. Suddenly, Thierry Henry was my manager. When he played at Arsenal or at Barcelona, he was one of my biggest heroes and I cheered him on before the television. The fact that all of a sudden he was now giving me advice seemed unrealistic. For me personally, it was an exceptional period.”
