After Argentina’s World Cup final win over France on penalties, the tournament’s Golden Ball winner and PSG forward Lionel Messi told Argentinian broadcaster TyC Sports that he had achieved a “childhood dream” by winning the World Cup before dedicating the triumph to the country’s people.
Messi described the win as “crazy” and the trophy as “the most beautiful thing there is,” saying that he “wanted it so much.” The 35-year-old said that he “felt” this would be the team’s time to win the tournament but pointed out that Argentina “suffered a lot, but we got there.”
The PSG attacker expressed his excitement at returning to Argentina, saying: “I can’t wait to be in Argentina to see how crazy it’s going to be,” while stating that he was desperate to end his career in this way and that he couldn’t ask for anything more. “I love soccer, it’s what I do,” Messi added, before stating how much he enjoys playing with the national team and that he wants to continue for the time being and enjoy playing with the squad as a World Champion.
The former Barcelona man, who scored twice during the game and during the penalty shootout, described the victory as “everyone’s childhood dream,” saying he had been lucky to have achieved everything else in the sport and “the only thing I was missing is now here.”
Messi is scheduled to return to action for PSG in 10 days’ time on December 28th for the visit of Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
