L’Équipe reveal today the Portuguese giants FC Porto made a failed approach for Argentinian shot-stopper Walter Benitez of OGC Nice before entering into advanced negotiations with Rennes to sign Czech international goalkeeper Tomas Koubek.

The approach to Les Aiglons was made on Monday by FCP and was met with a very rapid rejection from the Mediterranean side who have no intention of letting the 26-year-old depart this summer.

Koubek is expected to join FCP for a fee worth between €6m to €8m, but the deal is currently being held up whilst Rennes seek to find a replacement (Edouard Mendy?).
