The man in question is the individual who was photographed attempting to kick Marseille winger Dimitri Payet after the OM man threw a bottle back at the Populaire Sud, frustrated by the number of projectiles that had been thrown at him and his team-mates throughout the encounter.

Tony was arrested in Mandelieu-la-Napoule on Monday morning and spent 48 hours in police custody ahead of his hearing.

He is being tried this afternoon for two charges: “entry into a sports arena disturbing the progress of the competition” as well as “violence resulting in incapacity not exceeding eight days.”

Payet has filed legal charges against the individual for receiving a kick to the face and he will also demand damages as a civil party on top of the public prosecutor charges facing the man.

Tony’s lawyer, Benjamin Taieb, has made it clear that he intends to ask for an adjournment in order to better prepare his client’s defence. If this is granted, the court date today will still settle on whether or not Tony should remain in police custody or be able to walk on free on bail until the court hearing.

The man was already known to the authorities for former crimes not linked to football.
