Niort left-back Darline Yongwa (21) set to sign for FC Lorient

According L’Équipe, a verbal agreement has been reached between FC Lorient and Niort for the transfer of Chamois’ Cameroonian left-back Darline Yongwa (21) – signing a 4-year deal for transfer of €1.5m. Both clubs found an agreement last night, with Yongwa’s current contract running until June next year.

The young full-back, who was developed in one of Cameroon’s best football schools in Douala, has been playing for Ligue 2 side Chamois Niort since the start of 2019. Last season, Yongwa had 31 appearances in a settled position at left-back.

The intention of bringing in Yongwa is in order to offer squad depth to the Breton defence – he will come in to compete with veteran Vincent Le Goff (32) in a position that was highlighted as a weakness in defence last season. Lorient just about stayed up in Ligue 1 last season in 16th with 36 points, but with performances and results sliding Christophe Pélissier was sacked last week – as academy director Régis Le Bris will step into Lorient’s managerial role.
