A report has claimed that two Premier League clubs are among four sides looking to sign Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo in January.
The Portugal international spent most of the summer looking for a way out of Old Trafford after the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League.
However, a lack of interest in the 37-year-old, aside from a huge offer from Saudi Arabia, saw Ronaldo remain at Man Utd for the start of this season.
New Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has only given him two Premier League starts this season with the Portuguese striker making the starting line-up on a more regular basis in the Europa League.
And his lack of Premier League starts came to a head last week when Ronaldo refused to come off the bench in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham before leaving Old Trafford early.
Ronaldo was punished by Ten Hag by being fined and made to train alone before being brought back into first-team training on Tuesday morning.
Ten Hag and Ronaldo held clear-the-air talks on Tuesday too with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insisting that the former Real Madrid star told his Man Utd boss that he was “really sorry”.
There have been rumours over the past few days that Ronaldo and Man Utd could now look to come to a resolution in January that would allow him to leave the club.
It’s understood that Ten Hag still sees him as an important part of his wider squad but it seems unlikely that Ronaldo will accept being a bit-part player for the rest of the campaign.
And now Spanish publication Nacional claim that four clubs are ‘negotiating’ with his agent, Jorge Mendes, as he looks for a winter route out of Old Trafford.
They insist that Ronaldo’s second spell at Man Utd ‘has come to an end’ with the striker ‘looking for a way out’ and ‘analysing the possible options’.
Several clubs have ‘already contacted Mendes to let him know that they want the striker in their squad’ but only four remain after Ronaldo ‘ruled out calls from minor leagues or exotic countries’.
Arsenal and Newcastle United – who need ‘a great world star to complete their project’ – are the two Premier League clubs named with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta hoping the Portuguese veteran can provide ‘a touch of experience’.
The ‘most interested club’ is Napoli with their president Aurelio De Laurentiis ‘willing to take the risk’ to help them to build on their brilliant start to the season, which sees them lead Serie A.
Staying in Italy, Roma also ‘appears on the scene’ for Ronaldo with Giallorossi boss Jose Mourinho keen to ‘reunite’ with his former player at Real Madrid.
