As previously reported, Matt Hardy’s pro wrestling future has been thrown into question after he himself revealed that his lower back and pelvis have begun fusing together as a result of nearly 30 years of bumps taken in the ring.

Hardy was in action on WWE Raw this week, in a triple threat match for the Raw Tag Team Championships. His partner, Bray Wyatt, took the final fall in that bout. Afterwards Hardy tweeted out a photo of the two with the caption, “Thank you for everything, my COMPEER.. I shall miss you, Bray Wyatt.” In addition to the cryptic tweet, the fact that The Revival and The B-Team will be going on without them at this Sunday’s SummerSlam is a good indication that the group has split.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the 43-year-old superstar will be taking some time off to undergo treatments and rehab all of his nagging injuries. The hope is obviously that he’ll be able to make a full return to the ring at some point, but any major decisions will have to wait and see how his treatments proceed.
Apparently there has been conversations about him “shadowing” some of the backstage producers as a potential way to stay involved if an in-ring return doesn’t pan out.
It’s no secret that Hardy is something of a genius when it comes to the different aspects of the wrestling business, from creating all kinds of characters with his brother in the early days of OMEGA, being one of the first ever to use social media to get over, to the Broken Universe in Impact Wrestling. Just the fact that he has been in the business for so long, consistently reinventing himself, and perhaps making more money now than he was in his “prime”, should tell you all you need to know.
