WWE Superstar Bobby Lashley recently spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub out of Boston to hype this Monday’s episode of WWE Raw at the TD Garden.
Lashley ended his first run with WWE in 2008 to the shock of many, as at one point he was being groomed for a top position on the roster and considered to be the replacement for Brock Lesnar that Vince McMahon had been desperately looking for.
In his time away, Lashley made his debut in Mixed Martial Arts for a promotion called MFA, winning his very first professional fight by TKO in just 41 seconds. He would later sign with Strikeforce, and later Bellator MMA where he went undefeated in five consecutive high-profile fights, and was in the conversation for a potential heavyweight title bout before stepping away from the octagon and eventually making his return to WWE earlier this year.
The Dominator was asked about his time in the MMA world, and stated that there’s actually quite a few professional wrestlers currently on the WWE roster that he believes could fair well if they decided to pursue a career in actual fighting. Among the names he listed were Chad Gable, the Authors of Pain, and even Seth Rollins!
“Most of the guys that are fighting MMA right now don’t necessarily have a wrestling background, or boxing, or anything like that. They just picked it up and trained for years, and got to that point.”
“Chad Gable, who is an Olympic, I believe that he can go in there. His work ethic, the guy is an animal in the ring working out. Authors of Pain, both of those guys. One guy is a kickboxing world champion, and the other is a multi-time wrestling champion. I know one of them fought in Bellator for awhile, so he could possibly do it, he just doesn’t have a huge name.”
“As far as other guys on the main roster, I think a lot of guys have an opportunity to do it. I’ve been in the ring with some of these guys, and some of them are tough beyond what people know. Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe. I think Samoa Joe would definitely be able to do it. He’s great at kickboxing, he’s super aggressive and he’s tough. Shelton Benjamin. I think there’s a handful of guys that could possibly do it.”
