#4 Huskies Open Wrestling Season with Black/Red Classic

The #4 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team opened its 2013-14 by hosting its annual Black/Red Classic intrasquad dual match on Friday, Nov. 8 in Halenbeck Hall.

Team Red captured a 34-3 victory over Team Black in the match, which provided fans a chance to get a preview look at the Husky wrestling roster for 2013-14. Former Husky standouts Chad Becker and Mike Schultz served as the honorary coaches for the Black/Red Classic in 2013.

The Huskies will continued its season with a trip to the Iowa State Cyclone Open on Nov. 16. On Dec. 5, the Huskies will open their home dual match season with a 7 p.m. contest against local rival St. John’s.

SCSU tied a record last year by winning its 47 consecutive dual match, and the Huskies have a chance to break the NCAA Division II record for most consecutive dual wins with a victory over SJU.

The Huskies have posted consecutive 21-0 seasons in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and they have also won two consecutive NSIC championships along with three consecutive NCAA Division II Super 3 Regional titles. At the NCAA Division II championships, St. Cloud State has earned runner-up team finishes in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
