SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head wrestling coach Jason Reitmeier has announced he is adding three student-athletes to his 2019 class during early signing period which began Wednesday, November 14th.
Cade Mueller, Zachary Peterson, and Lincoln Shinn have each signed letters of intent to continue their academic and wrestling careers at Augustana.
”We are extremely excited about our early signees Cade Mueller, Zachary Peterson, and Lincoln Shinn,” Reitmeier said. “We really focused on our upper weights and brought in three big guys at 174 pounds, 184 pounds, and 197 pounds. We feel these three were some of the most talented big guys in our region. All three have had success nationally and regionally, not to mention come from winning programs. They fit our program extremely well with strong academic backgrounds as well. All three are talented enough to help our program immediately when they get to campus.”
Cade Mueller |Waconia, Minn. | Waconia HS | Weight Class: 174 pounds
High School: Will graduate in May of 2019 … Class AA state champion as a junior … placed fourth at Class AA state as a sophomore… named all-conference three times …nine-time Ironman … In football Mueller was named Defensive Player of the Year, earned All-District and was invited to participate in the All-Star game … three-time academic award winner … state entrant as a freshman
Personal: Son of George and Darlene Mueller … born in Waconia, MN on Dec. 13, 2000 … Is still exploring what to study at Augustana
Reitmeier on Mueller: “Cade is an extremely strong and explosive wrestler. He is strong enough to wrestle up weight classes yet quick enough to compete against the lighter weights. He is tough in all positions and difficult to score on. Cade has the ability and confidence to come in and compete right away. We are excited to get Cade in the room next year and get to work with him.”
Zachary Peterson |Perham Minn. | Perham HS | Weight Class: 184 pounds
High School: Will graduate in May of 2019 … finished third at Class AA state as a junior … section champion as a junior … section champion and state entrant as a sophomore…section champion and state entrant as a freshman … voted Most Dedicated Wrestler on his team three years running
Personal: Son of Ron and Lori Peterson … born in St. Cloud, MN on June 30, 2000 … plans to major in Physics or Business at Augustana
Reitmeier on Peterson: “Zach comes to us from one of the best wrestling programs in the state of Minnesota right now and he has a lot to do with that success. We love the fact that Zach competes year-round and challenges himself against the best in the nation. Zach has great technique on his feet add with a tough, aggressive, and attacking style that fits our program. We are excited to see Zach in an Augustana wrestling singlet!”
Lincoln Shinn |Wilmar, Minn. | Willmar Senior HS | Weight Class: 197 pounds
High School: Will graduate in May of 2019 … Cadet Folkstyle national champion as a sophomore … fourth place at Class AAA state as a sophomore … state entrant as a junior (injury default)…second place finish at Rumble on the Red Tournament as a junior … third place finish at the Christmas Tournament as a junior … state participant as a freshman
Personal: Son of Lincoln and Jennifer Shinn … born in Willmar, MN on March 5, 2001 … plans to major in Economics and Finance with a minor in business at Augustana
Reitmeier on Shinn: “We have been recruiting Lincoln for a long time knowing he was a great fit for our program. Lincoln is extremely tough on top and difficult to score on. He’s a big guy who scrambles like a lightweight and once he gets on top he’s a hammer. Lincoln was exactly what we were looking for, someone long with room to grow into a full-size 197lber. Lincoln comes from a winning program and also trains with one of the best clubs in the nation. His experience will have him ready the day he walks into our room.”
