The 2018 edition of The Guillotine Academic All-State honorees features 30 first-team members, 30 second-team members, 30 third-team members, and 39 honorable mention wrestlers.
Wrestlers, representing 67 teams, were submitted on nomination forms signed by a coach and school administrator verifying their current GPA (minimum of 3.0), the number of current season varsity matches wrestled (minimum of fifteen), current season win percentage (minimum of 60%) and grade (junior or senior).
Points were tallied according to current varsity wins, current state tournament placement, and cumulative high school GPA. Each of the first team wrestlers will receive two certificates and a letter of recognition.

First Team
Brody Nielsen of Albert Lea Area
12th grade, 152 pounds
Brody is a three-time state entrant placing third at 152 pounds this year in Class AAA. He also placed third at 138 pounds as a junior. Brody had a season record of 44-8. He ended his high school career with a record of 126-25 including 79 pins. Brody’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include most falls in a season in Albert Lea Wrestling history, honor-roll every semester, Spotlight on Scholarship for four years, Big 9 All-Conference, five-time letter winner, 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State, team captain, and youth coach. Future plans are to wrestle at Minnesota State University Mankato and pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business/healthcare. Brody’s parents are Jeff and Jodi, and his coach is Paul Durbahn.
Zach Glazier of Albert Lea Area
11th grade, 170 pounds
Zach won the Class AAA title this year at 170 pounds. He was runner-up at 152-pounds as a junior. Zach also placed fourth at 126 pounds as a sophomore and third at 106 pounds as a freshman. Zach had an impressive season record of 48-1. His current career record is 173-22. Zach’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include team captain, 2018 MWCA Academic All-State, 2018 MSHSL AAA All-Tournament Team, 2017 Minnesota Christmas Tournament champion, and 2017 cadet freestyle nationals All-American. Zach is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to continue his wrestling career in college. Zach’s parents are Ann and Dan, and his coach is Paul Durbahn.
Dylan Droegemueller of Anoka
12th grade, 132 pounds
Dylan is a four-time state entrant placing third at 132 pounds this year in Class AAA. He also placed third at 126 pounds as a junior and fifth at 113 pounds as a sophomore. Dylan had a season record of 52-4. He ended his high school career with a record of 171-19 (90 win %) including 79 pins. Dylan’s GPA is 3.71. Honors and achievements include four-time all-conference, three-year team captain, and freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion. Future plans are to wrestle at North Dakota State University. Dylan’s parents are Kim and Darren, and his coach is Todd Springer.
Tyler Eischens of Anoka
12th grade, 152 pounds
Tyler is a four-time state finalist. He won the 138-pound Class AAA title as a junior. Tyler was runner-up at 152 pounds as a senior, 126 pounds as a sophomore, and 113 pounds as a freshman. Tyler had an impressive season record of 54-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 209-12 (94.6 win %) including 112 pins. Tyler’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include five-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament finalist and three-time winner, 2018 MWCA Academic All-State, two-time Clash Duals Scholar-Athlete Award winner, three-year team captain, and five-time all-conference. Future plans are to wrestle at the Stanford University. Tyler’s parents are Heidi and Brian, and his coach is Todd Springer.
Brandon Frankfurth of Anoka
12th grade, 285 pounds
Brandon is a two-time state finalist. He was the Class AAA heavyweight runner-up this year as a senior and last year as a junior. Brandon had an impressive season record of 54-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 91-10 (90.1 win %) including 42 pins. Brandon’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include captain of the football, wrestling, and track teams. Future plans are to play football at Bemidji State University. Brandon’s parents are Tim and Teresa, and his coach is Todd Springer.
Sebas Swiggum of Apple Valley
11th grade, 132 pounds
Sebas is a two-time state placewinner. He was the Class AAA 132-pound runner-up this year. He placed third at 120 pounds as a freshman. Sebas had a season record of 44-8. His current career record is 133-43. Sebas’ GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include four-time Section All-Academic Team and 2018 Clash Duals Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Brady is a two-time state placewinner. He was the Class AAA 138-pound runner-up this year. He placed fifth at 120 pounds as a sophomore. Brady had a season record of 43-8. Honors and achievements include two-time MWCA Academic All-State, two-year team captain, two-time all-conference, two-time team MVP, two-time All-District in football, and all-conference in baseball. Adam is a three-time state entrant winning the 152-pound Class A title this year. He placed third at 145 pounds as a junior. Adam finished his season undefeated with 34 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 173-47 including 71 pins. Adam’s GPA is 3.98. Honors and achievements include four-time all-conference, three-year team captain, four-time academic all-conference, school wins record holder, 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State, and Student of Excellence Award. Adam is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at Concordia College in Moorhead and pursue a degree in a medical or engineering field. Tyler is a four-time state entrant placing third at 132 pounds this year in Class A. Tyler had a season record of 46-8. His current career record is 129-51 including 57 pins. Tyler’s GPA is 3.98. Honors and achievements include four-time all-conference, two-year team captain, three-time academic all-conference, and student council member and current vice president. Tyler is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend a four-year college and wrestle. Tyler’s parents are Nick and Kristine, and his coach is Jack Mueller.

12th grade, 160 pounds
Zach won the Class A title this year at 160 pounds. He is a two-time state entrant. Zach had a season record of 37-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 113-33 including 39 pins. Zach’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include four-time academic all-state for football, all-conference (4 wrestling, 3 football, 1 baseball), 2018 LaCrosse Tribune Wrestler of the Year, first Houston HS state champion, ranked #1 in class, and student council and knowledge bowl member. Zach is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend college and continue wrestling. He would like to coach someday. Zach’s parents are Nick and Amy, and his coach is Shay Mahoney.
Jaden Kindopp of Canby
11th grade, 170 pounds
Jaden made the most of his first state tournament appearance by winning the Class A 170-pound title this year. Jaden had a season record of 37-10. His current career record is 84-48 including 43 pins. Jaden’s GPA is 3.93. Honors and achievements include two-year team captain, Hardest Worker Award for Canby Wrestling, YAMS (Youth Against Misusing Substances) member, and youth wrestling volunteer coach. Jaden is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend college for pre-medicine and possibly wrestle or play football. Jaden’s parents are Justin and Lynn, and his coach is Gary Stoks.
Peyton Mortenson of Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle/Montevideo United
12th grade, 160 pounds
Peyton is a three-time state entrant and two-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 160-pound runner-up this year. He placed sixth at 152 pounds as a junior. Peyton had a season record of 41-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 174-50 including 56 pins. Peyton’s GPA is 3.8. Honors and achievements include MN/USA Junior Folkstyle State Champion in 2017, four-time all-conference, two-time Team MVP Award, Team Coaches Choice Award in 2016, two-time MWCA Academic All-State, six-year letter winner in wrestling, four-year letter winner in football and three-year letter winner in baseball so far, 2017 Redwood River Riot champion, and team captain for wrestling, baseball, and football. Peyton is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend Concordia College in Moorhead. Peyton has been recruited to play football for the Cobbers and is also considering wrestling. Peyton’s parents are Randy and Rebecca, and his coach is Ross Jurgenson.
Justin Henry of Foley
12th grade, 170 pounds
Justin was the Class AA 170-pound runner-up this year. It was his first state tournament appearance. Justin had a season record of 40-13. He ended his high school career with a record of 86-43 including 30 pins. Justin’s GPA is 3.82. Honors and achievements include 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State Third Team, two-time Granite Ridge All-Conference, three-time academic all-conference, St. Cloud Times All-Area Team Honorable Mention, and team captain. Future plans are to pursue a degree in marketing at The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Justin’s parents are Jon and Jodi, and his coach is Scott Gorecki.
Mitch Trigg of Foley
12th grade, 285 pounds
Mitch is a two-time state entrant winning the heavyweight Class AA title in 2017. He placed second as a senior. Mitch had a season record of 47-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 130-24 including 68 pins. Mitch’s GPA is 3.68. Honors and achievements include 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, Granite Ridge All-Conference, and St. Cloud Times Wrestler of the Year finalist. Future plans are to wrestle at Davidson College in North Carolina and pursue an engineering degree. Mitch’s parents are Darin and Bonnie, and his coach is Scott Gorecki.
TJ Pottinger of Hastings

TJ is a three-time state entrant placing third at 182 pounds this year in Class AAA. TJ had a season record of 44-7. He ended his high school career with a record of 130-58 including 37 pins. TJ’s GPA is 3.99. Honors and achievements include two-time all-conference, two-year team captain, two-year lacrosse captain, football captain, Link Crew Leader, State Dual Tournament All-Tournament Team, and #7 class rank. Trey Rogers of Hastings

Trey won the Class AAA title this year at 195 pounds. He was runner-up at 182-pounds as a junior. Trey also placed fourth at 182 pounds as a sophomore. Trey finished his season undefeated with 49 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 158-28 including 53 pins. Trey’s GPA is 3.99. Honors and achievements include four-time class president, Link Crew Leader, MN ExCel Award winner, two-year team captain, football captain, three-time State Dual Tournament All-Tournament Team, and #15 class rank. Trey is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to major in Pre-Med and wrestle at Hofstra University. Trey’s parents are Norm Rogers and Michelle Jackson, and his coach is Josh McLay.
Jacob Tvinnereim of Jackson County Central

Jacob is a four-time state entrant and three-time placewinner. He was the Class A 152-pound runner-up this year. He placed fourth at 138 pounds as a junior and sixth at 113 pounds as a freshman. Jacob had a season record of 48-6. He ended his high school career with a record of 182-56 including 69 pins. Jacob’s GPA is 3.81. Honors and achievements include five-year letter winner, 2018 MWCA Academic All-State, four-time all-conference, three-year team captain, MSHSL ExCEL Award nominee, and letter winner in football, track, and baseball. Jared is a three-time state entrant placing third at 113 pounds this year in Class AA. He also placed fourth at 113 pounds as a junior and fifth at 113 pounds as a sophomore. Jared had a season record of 45-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 139-33 including 60 pins. Jared’s GPA is 3.92. Honors and achievements include 2018 MWCA Academic All-State and Scholarship recipient, 2017 Minnesota Christmas Tournament champion, 2016-17-18 Dual Team State Champions, and MSHSL Triple “A” Scholarship Award nominee. Jared is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend MSU Mankato to study Computer Information Technology. Honors and achievements include two-time Rumble on the Red champion, two-time MWCA Academic All-State, three-year team captain, five-time all-conference, Big 9 Scholar, six-time letter winner, six-time Spotlight on Scholar, 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State, school record for career wins and falls, and two-year football captain. Future plans are to attend Gustavus Adolphus College and play football. Zachary’s parents are Paul and Lori, and his coach is Dustin Buttell.

Cole is a two-time state entrant placing third at 152 pounds this year in Class A. Cole had a season record of 39-11. His current career record is 74-31 including 22 pins. Cole’s GPA is 3.91. Honors and achievements include 2018 Most Valuable Teammate for wrestling, team captain for 2018/2019, football team state champion 2015 and 2017, and SW District Football All-Academic team. Peyton is a three-time state champion and a four-time finalist. He won the 160-pound Class AAA title this year, the 120-pound title as a sophomore, and the 106-pound title as a freshman. Peyton was also runner-up at 145 pounds as a junior. Peyton finished his season undefeated with 48 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 197-25 including 110 pins. Peyton’s GPA is 3.88. Honors and achievements include three-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament champion, Pan American Games champion (freestyle and Greco), 2017 USA Wrestling Greco national champion, Clash Duals Scholar-Athlete Award winner, and four-time academic all-conference. Future plans are to study Kinesiology and wrestle at Nebraska. Peyton’s parents are Tracey and Carrie, and his coach is Adam Woitalla.

Ty is a three-time state entrant placing third at 195 pounds this year in Class AA. He also placed third at 195 pounds as a junior. Ty had an impressive season record of 46-2. Honors and achievements include two-time State Dual Tournament All-Tournament Team, three-time section champion, and two-time section 8AA all-academic team. Kenny is a four-time state placer winning the 160-pound Class AAA title last year as a junior. He placed third at 170 pounds as a senior, third at 152 pounds as a sophomore, and fifth at 145 pounds as a freshman. Kenny had a season record of 32-4. He ended his high school career with a record of 212-50 including 91 pins. Kenny’s GPA is 3.89. Honors and achievements include six-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament placer, three-time USA Wrestling Triple Crown Winner, 2017 junior freestyle All-American, two-time Clash Duals Scholar-Athlete Award winner, two-time MWCA Academic All-State and 2018 Scholarship recipient, and 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State first team. Future plans are to wrestle at SDSU, pursue a degree in biology and Spanish, and work in healthcare. Kenny’s parents are Kevin and Jane, and his coach is Joe Block.

Tyler is a two-time state entrant placing third at 132 pounds this year in Class AA. He also placed fifth at 132 pounds as a sophomore. Tyler had a season record of 41-14. His current career record is 118-38 including 39 pins. Tyler’s GPA is 3.79. Honors and achievements include being a member of the cadet Greco national championship team, honor student, three-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament placer, and runner-up at the Rumble on the Red Tournament. Future plans are to attend a four-year university to study elementary education and continue his wrestling career. Dayne won the Class A title this year at 120 pounds. He was runner-up at 113-pounds as a junior. Dayne also placed third at 106 pounds as a sophomore. Dayne had a season record of 44-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 117-9 (92.9 win %) including 47 pins. Dayne’s GPA is 3.84. Honors and achievements include three-time all-conference, 2017 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, team captain, 2018 All Journal Wrestler of the Year, 2018 KNUJ Wrestler of the Year, three-time KDUZ All-Area Team, and two-time KNUJ Wrestler of the Week. Dayne is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at Northern State University and major in Physical Education or Sports and Nutrition. Dayne’s parents are Dan and DeAnn, and his coach is Chad Johnson.
Hunter Jennings of Triton

Hunter placed third at state this year at 195 pounds in Class A. It was his first state tournament appearance. Hunter had a season record of 26-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 54-45 including 18 pins. Hunter’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include 2017 HVL All-Conference in wrestling, two-time All-District in football, 2017 All-State in football, 2017 District Offensive Player of the Year for football, and three-time letter winner in football, wrestling, and track. Hunter is also a member of the Minnesota Honor Society. Future plans are to play football at UM-Duluth and major in engineering. Hunter’s parents are Jason and Darlene, and his coach is Tyler Johnson.
Clay Carlson of Willmar
12th grade, 132 pounds
Clay won the Class AAA title this year at 132 pounds. He was runner-up at 132-pounds as a junior. Clay also placed sixth at 113 pounds as a freshman. Clay finished his season undefeated with 48 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 188-39 including 83 pins. Clay’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include 2018 MWCA Academic All-State and Scholarship recipient, Region 8AA runner-up for Triple “A’ Award, highest GPA on the team for three years, MWCA Team Academic State Champions, and 2017-18 Choir President. Clay is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at South Dakota State and study Animal Science with the goal of becoming a large animal Veterinarian. Clay’s parents are Carl and Kellie Carlson/Jon and Leah Kreps, and his coach is Ed Oehlers.

Cael is a three-time state finalist. He won the 138-pound Class AAA title as a junior. Cael was runner-up at 126 pounds as a sophomore and at 113 pounds as a freshman. Cael finished his season undefeated with 48 wins. His current career record is 140-16 including 81 pins. Cael’s GPA is 3.99. Honors and achievements include MWCA Team Academic State Champions and state tournament participant in cross country and track. Cael is also a member of the National Honor Society.
