Wahlstrom and Nohns Place Second

KENOSHA, WIS.– The Augustana wrestling team was back on the road this weekend traveling to Kenosha, Wis. Saturday for the Jim Koch Open. Overall, seven of the 18 Vikings participating placed, including two second-place finishers.

The two highest placing Vikings were redshirt seniors Clayton Wahlstrom (197 lbs) and Luke Nohns (HWT). Wahlstrom went 3-1 on the day picking up victories by way of major decision, sudden victory, and a decision before falling in a 6-4 decision to Ethan Sherertz of Maryville University (Mo.) in the 197-pound title match. Nohns finished the day 4-1 picking up two pinfalls, a major decision and a decision en route to the championship match where he would lose a 6-4 decision to Logan Radik of Maryville University.

Redshirt senior Colin Ayers (157 lbs) and redshirt sophomore Jackson Sweeney (165 lbs) placed third for the Vikings. Ayers went 5-1 picking up a tech fall and four decisions in victories. In his only loss of the day, Ayers lost via sudden victory to Isaiah Patton of Northern Iowa. Sweeney also went 5-1 on the day.

Placing fourth for Augustana was redshirt freshman Daniel Bishop (184 lbs). Bishop finished the day 3-1 with victories by fall, tech fall, and a major decision.

Freshman Kolby Kost went 4-2 to finish fifth. Kost earned two victories by fall and one by major decision before taking fifth place over Conner Price of UW-Parkside by medical forfeit.

Freshman Jack Huffman also went 4-2 which was good for a sixth-place finish. Huffman earned one victory by pinfall and three victories by decision.
