India’s general elections are around the corner and political parties have begun fielding their candidates. Majority of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha polls are financially sound and its rare that candidates from poor backgrounds are given a chance to contest polls. However, one such candidate, Pramila Bisoi, is a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate from Aska Lok Sabha constituency, who is different in her own regard. She is a farmer with less than one acre of land and has been instrumental in forming many women SHGs and empowering women in her area.
