London retail destination Carnaby has teamed up with central London
College, Kingsway to launch a limited edition Carnaby tote bag.
Second year Design and Fashion students at Westminster Kingsway College
were asked to create designs capturing the essence and personality of
Carnaby, London’s most exciting destination for shopping, lifestyle and
dining.
The winning design came from fashion student Shaniqua Christian, who
created an abstract detail inspired by her time spent in Carnaby. Her
design will be reproduced on 2,000 limited edition bags, which will be
available to customers making purchases in stores including Dr Martens,
Lyle & Scott, David Naman, SuperTrash and Cubitts.
Kim Caplin, vice principal, Westminster Kingsway College said: “The
design competition provided an insight into the professional world and was
an excellent opportunity for college fashion and design students to express
their creativity and we are delighted for Shaniqua that she has seen her
design become a reality.”
Emma Steele, PR, marketing and retail co-ordinator from Shaftesbury
PLC, where the 13 streets of Carnaby is one of the destinations in their
portfolio added: “Shaftesbury have been delighted to work alongside
Westminster Kingsway College. The work produced by the students has been of
a very high standard and it’s been fantastic to see such enthusiasm in the
students and a true understanding of Carnaby as a unique and iconic
shopping and dining destination. We can’t wait to see shoppers carrying the
finished bag in Carnaby.”
