The Emirates Western Force and a South Australian invitational side will go head to head in a mid-season match on Friday 22 June at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.
It will be the first time a Super Rugby team has played in Adelaide with the Emirates Western Force taking on a side featuring talented South Australian and interstate Rugby players, including players with international and Super Rugby experience.
The Super Rugby competition will be in the midst of the international test break so the Emirates Western Force will use the match as preparation for their clash with the Brumbies the following week.
“It is a great opportunity for the Emirates Western Force to get some game time under our belts against quality opposition before we head back into the Super Rugby competition after the mid-season break,” RugbyWA CEO Vern Reid said.
“Like South Australia, we live in an AFL dominated state and so we are pleased to be heading over to help them grow the game and lift the Rugby profile.”
SA Rugby CEO Lachlan Clark said that as the first match involving a Super Rugby side to be played in Adelaide, it’s a huge coup.
“This is a first for South Australia and a wonderful opportunity for Rugby fans in Adelaide to see players from what is arguably the toughest provincial Rugby competition in the world. And, it’s right here in our own backyard,” Clark said.
“We encourage all Rugby and sport fans to get to Hindmarsh Stadium on June 22 for what is going to be a cracker game of Rugby.”
Further details about match tickets as well as the team to take on the South Australian side will be announced in the coming weeks.
