Universal Standard Launches the Tria Collection

Universal Standard, the cutting-edge size-inclusive fashion brand, has launched a new capsule collection. Tria for Universal Standard is the result of one question: What item is missing from your closet that you’ve been searching for but just can’t find? “It’s shocking how much is missing,” says Candice Huffine, who along with fellow models Georgia Pratt and Katy Syme, was tapped by Universal Standard to create that one elusive piece.

Huffine designed a chic crêpe T-shirt with a single-shoulder cutout, which she describes as edgy, a trait typically lacking in clothes made for curvy women. “You would never believe how hard it is to find a great T,” she says, but in larger sizes, the cut can be unflattering and the material cheap-looking.

The goal of Tria, says Syme, is to offer the consumer “really cool stuff in the same way as straight fashion.” Her piece is an updated kimono in a satin-back crêpe that’s modern and versatile. So too is Pratt’s crisp cotton-blend shirtdress. “Georgia made a shirtdress mainly because you can’t find one that has what you want and fits well. I’ve got six, eight black dresses in my closet, but something’s off with each one!” laments Syme.

For now, it’s only a matter of time before all women have access to amazing clothes. “We’re many years into this evolving fashion space within the curvy community, but we’re still a little in unmanned territory. That’s why we have to use our voices now more than ever,” says Huffine. “People are finally listening.”
